Bridges of Hope South Africa

In 2003, the Bridges of Hope South Africa Project was developed in response to the AIDS pandemic that has ravaged the nation of South Africa to a greater extent than any other country on Earth.

  • This nation of 433 million has more than 5.3 million known AIDS sufferers.
  • Statistics indicate that 50% of today’s youth under the age of 15 in South Africa will die within the next 10 years.
  • The AIDS pandemic in South Africa is producing 150,000 orphaned children per year (now around 5 million total), for which there is not an adequate infrastructure to provide care.

In 2009, Mountain Life Church adopted the Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) Program in Philippi, S. Africa, committing $20,000 per year for three years. Children receive school fees, food, clothing, medical care, and weekly support groups. Twice a year, in December and June, they can attend a week-long camp in a safe environment outside of their dangerous township. Teams from Mountain Life go to help run the camp, which has been such a blessing to the children and our teams.
